In accordance with Minnesota Department of Health guidelines related to slowing the spread of Coronavirus/COVID-19, all in-person Hamline Midway Elders groups, classes and events are cancelled until further notice. Our office will remain open.

Tai Chi for Health: Students will practice an easy-to-learn set of Tai Chi movements that can be done both seated and standing. This gentle, flowing exercise fosters mind-body connection and coordination; build strength and flexibility; improves balance and cultivates mental clarity, awareness and calm.

Sitting in a chair or standing and using the chair for support, you’ll learn fundamentals of yoga postures and breathing, practice tension release, and begin building strength and flexibility. Older adults who have never participated in an exercise class are encouraged to give this a try.

Knitting & Crochet Group

Ongoing group: meets on Zoom Mondays at 1:00
This group is knitting/crocheting with a purpose—making comfort/prayer shawls to be donated to the hospice at Our Lady of Peace, blankets for a local child care center, or hats/scarves/mittens for local schools.
New members and beginners are always welcome to join this friendly group of yarn crafters. Yarn is provided.

Our monthly luncheons have been the staple of our program for over 15 years. Delicious chef-prepared food attracts around 100 seniors from the community, and also feature guest speakers on topics related to issues affecting older adults.
Lunch is at 11:30; speaker at 12:15-1:00. New guests are especially welcome! Free parking; transportation can be arranged for seniors in our service area. Free blood pressure checks available.

Jody's Documentary Film Series (not currently meeting)

This partnership with the Hamline Midway Library continues on the last Wednesday of each month at 1:00 pm. Film aficionado Jody Huber introduces a thought-provoking documentary each month - many from the acclaimed POV (a cinema term for point of view) series from PBS. After each documentary film, Jody will provide updated information and lead a group discussion. Light refreshments will also be provided.

Reading Buddies Wanted (not currently meeting)
1st & 3rd Wednesdays of each month
12:30 - 1:10pm Our partnership with Hamline Elementary School and the Reading Buddy Program returns with the start of a new school year. Third grade students enjoy reading to neighborhood elders so we’re hoping to recruit even more older adults to participate. No experience is necessary, just a desire to interact with children.
